About this place Lakeland Highlands Scrub is a 551-acre Polk County conservation area protecting the largest remaining tract of the historic Lakeland Ridge. Two hiking trails, the 2.2-mile Tortoise Trail and the 0.6-mile Shady Oak Trail, cross dry prairie, pine flatwoods, oak hammock and swamp habitats. The sandy trails also connect to a secondary entrance of Se7en Wetlands.
